Functional Yarns (performance properties)
Elastic yarns are based on elastane and provide permanent elastic recovery. They are used for stretch, comfort and compression.

We process polyamide and polyester into bulky yarns. Texturing produces elastic yarns, while air texturing produces inelastic yarns with a natural hand and high abrasion resistance.
Multi textured yarns are bulky, soft and elastic.

Air textured yarns have a compact crimp structure and are particularly suitable for technical fabrics and outdoor textiles.

Electrically conductive yarns can consist, for example, of yarns wrapped with metallic wires such as copper, or of silver plated yarns. They can conduct electrical current, activate sensors, generate heat or provide electromagnetic shielding. Depending on the construction, resistance values are specified in ohms per metre.

Electrically conductive yarns carry electrical current. Dissipative yarns, on the other hand, control and discharge electrostatic charges. They therefore have a significantly higher electrical resistance than conductive yarns.

Functional yarns with electrical conductivity are used for smart textiles and wearables. They can be used for sensors, RFID and NFC, heated textiles or illuminated textiles. Depending on the application, copper, silver or conductive carbon materials can be used.

Inherently flame retardant yarns are made from a polymer that already has flame retardant properties. The effect is therefore permanent and is not achieved solely through a subsequent finishing treatment of the yarn.
We offer inherently flame retardant PA66 yarns that meet, among others, the requirements of DIN ISO EN 15025, FAR/CS 25.853 and OEKO TEX Standard 100 Class 1. We also offer flame retardant PA6 and PET yarns.

High tenacity PA and PET yarns are particularly suitable where high tear strength is required. UHMWPE yarns are characterised by very high strength and low elongation.
Twisted yarns and air textured yarns are particularly suitable for high abrasion resistance. Depending on the application, aramid yarns can also be used.

Circular yarns can be made from recycled raw materials and, depending on the material and yarn construction, can be returned to a recycling process after use.
Recycled PA and PET yarns can be produced from production waste or from used products such as bottles and textiles. Bio based PA and PET polymers consist partly or entirely of renewable raw materials. They are not automatically biodegradable or compostable.

Additives and masterbatches can give yarns additional properties during manufacturing.
Silver and zinc based additives can provide antibacterial properties. Mineral additives can support cooling properties and the reflection of certain ranges of radiation. Colour pigments in the masterbatch allow the yarn to be coloured during manufacturing, enabling a low water dyeing process.
Medical yarns are used for applications with specific requirements regarding materials, purity, safety and traceability. Depending on the application, compliance with OEKO TEX, REACH and FDA as well as additional testing may be required.
Applications such as implants, sutures or pharmaceutical filters are subject to particularly stringent requirements.

Viscose and other cellulose filament yarns are based on the renewable raw material wood. They are soft, moisture regulating and can provide a cool hand.
Crimping creates bulky yarns with a more matt appearance than flat yarns. Depending on the material used, such yarns can be an alternative to synthetic textiles.

Cooling yarns are suitable for textiles where a pleasant microclimate next to the skin and a cool hand are desired. Typical applications include sportswear, running apparel, T-shirts and socks.
Our EC0Tex innovation project is still in the scale up phase. The first yarns are scheduled to be produced on the pilot plant in 2026 and will initially be made available to project partners for further applications.

Yarn Manufacturing Processes (Processes)
During texturing, filament yarns are permanently crimped. This creates elastic and bulky yarns with a pleasant hand. They are mainly used for apparel, underwear, hosiery and technical textiles.

During air texturing, a yarn is entangled with compressed air, creating a bulky and inelastic crimp structure. The result is a robust yarn with a natural hand, suitable for technical fabrics, coated fabrics and outdoor textiles.

In twisting, a single yarn is twisted around its own axis. Plying combines two or more yarns by twisting them together. Depending on the construction, blended plied yarns, covered yarns or crossed plied yarns can be produced.
Twisted yarns are used for warp and weft yarns, technical textiles and particularly durable yarn constructions.

Elastic yarns are covered with one or more covering yarns. In single covering, one covering yarn provides the main properties for elasticity and hand. With double covering, the inner and outer covering yarns can perform different functions.
Such yarns are mainly used for compression textiles, underwear and sports textiles.

With air entangled yarns, two yarns are usually fed in parallel and joined together by compressed air. The connection is created at discrete points along the yarn.
With covered yarns, a covering yarn is wrapped helically around a core yarn. This construction remains stable under tensile load and is particularly suitable for elastic applications such as compression textiles.

Textile Applications (Yarn Selection)
Depending on the desired function, appearance and hand, different yarns can be used. These include soft textured yarns, robust air textured yarns, elastic covered yarns and high tenacity twisted yarns.

Yarns for compression textiles require defined and permanent elastic recovery. Depending on the application, single or double covered as well as air entangled elastic yarns can be used.

For narrow fabrics, mainly twisted PA and PET yarns as well as flat and textured yarns are used. Depending on the application, additional functions such as RFID, NFC, electrical conductivity or flame retardancy can be integrated.

Hot melt adhesive yarns are used to fix textile layers, scrims or composite materials during further processing. They can, for example, be used as sewing or embroidery yarns.
Electrically conductive yarns are particularly suitable for smart textiles and wearables. They can be used for sensors, heated textiles, RFID, NFC or illuminated textiles.
The required conductivity, electrical resistance and desired shielding effect are decisive factors.

Workwear and personal protective equipment require yarns with different protective functions. These include flame retardancy, cut resistance, abrasion resistance, antistatic properties and elasticity.
The required properties depend on the application and the applicable standards.
For filter textiles, defined and controlled permeability is essential. Depending on the application, additional requirements may include purity, chemical resistance and compliance with REACH, EU Food or FDA requirements.
Depending on the application, medical textiles must meet specific requirements regarding purity, safety, material compatibility and traceability.
Applications involving the human body are subject to particularly stringent requirements. Depending on the product, FDA compliance and other specific tests may be required.
Quality and Certifications (Testing and Certification)
In our textile laboratory, we can test, among other things, linear density, tensile strength, elongation at break, crimp level, crimp retention, boiling and thermal shrinkage, intermingling, twist level and winding oil application.
For critical applications, particularly for warp and circular knitting yarns, we offer 100% knitting inspection. Each textured yarn package is knitted and dyed. The levelness of dye uptake is then assessed using a colour measurement device as well as visually.
beag organises its processes according to the principles of an ISO 9001 quality management system. We focus on controllable and reproducible processes as well as complete traceability. The current certificate is available on our website.

beag has an environmental management system according to ISO 14001. We continuously work to use energy and resources efficiently and reduce our carbon footprint. This includes solar energy, LED lighting, waste heat recovery, process water recycling and returning mono material yarn waste to the circular economy.

Yes. beag follows an industry specific solution and a Code of Conduct. As our products are manufactured entirely in Switzerland, we have direct access to the production processes involved and can consistently implement the applicable legal requirements.

Our products are tested and certified according to the requirements of OEKO TEX Standard 100. The required documents and yarn samples are regularly submitted for testing. The respective certificate is available to our customers on request.
